John Henry Lillie their first born was my great grandfather. I was bemused for a long time as their marriage at the parish church at Aspatria in Cumberland on the 22 July 1844 followed by the birth of John Henry on the 15 November 1844 made it look like a shotgun marriage, That is until I was given a copy of the marriage record of the civil marriage at Allison's Bank Toll-House Gretner Green Scotland. I still do not know why they went to Aspatria except presumably to follow the work. The only major work I can find at that time was the Mary port to Carlisle railway which was under construction.
